GAIA Wines was founded in 1994 by Bordeaux University educated oenologist Yiannis Paraskevopoulos and by agronomist Leon Karatsalos.

Gaia has two modern wineries that are located in two of the most interesting and promising P.D.O. areas of Greece, Nemea in the Peloponnese and Santorini.

Yiannis Paraskevopoulos and his expert team manage every step of the winemaking process with the sole intention of producing only top-quality wines.

If Gaia has a mission statement, it is to demonstrate the potential of the indigenous Greek grape varieties, mainly Assyrtiko and Agiorgitiko.

Since its foundation, Gaia has inspired winemakers working with the Agiorgitiko and Assyrtiko grapes and redefined their approach.

More than ever, the untamable Yiannis Paraskevopoulos is still at the forefront of experimentation with new ideas: new clones, new winemaking techniques, burying Assyrtiko bottles at 20 meters deep at sea…to put forward the various manifestations of Greece’s indigenous varieties.

As MW Konstantinos Lazarakis puts it: “Greece needs more people like this”.

In fact, Gaia is one of the most internationally recognized Greek wineries. It has been collecting top wine awards from international prestigious competitions such as the IWSC, Decanter World Wine Awards, the Japan Wine Challenge and been acclaimed by wine authorities such as Jancis Robinson, Hugh Johnson, Robert parker, MW Markus Del, Tim Atkin to name but a few.
