Cyprus
Cyprus has more than 5,500 years of wine history and, unlike most of Europe, escaped phylloxera. In the highlands around Pano Panayia in Paphos, vines therefore remain ungrafted, growing on their own roots within an ancient island tradition. Xynisteri, Spourtiko, Maratheftiko and Mavro are among the indigenous grapes preserved here and rarely encountered beyond Cyprus.
