Dutch wine is less an unbroken historical tradition than a modern one being written at higher latitudes. In North Brabant, renewed viticulture has been made possible by PIWI varieties—early-ripening, disease-resistant crossings adapted to a cool, humid climate. Solaris, Johanniter, Cabernet Cortis and related grapes form a distinctly northern collection of white, orange, sparkling, rosé and red wines.
