Grenache

About the Wine

Grenache is a red grape variety long associated with the Mediterranean coast, valued for its supple texture, aromatic fruit, and the freshness it develops when grown in balanced coastal conditions. MAWJ’s Grenache displays a beautiful purple hue, with aromas of herbs and fruit.

On the palate, multiple layers of flavour unfold, brought together by smooth, velvety tannins.

About the Vineyard

Location: Eddé, Batroun, Lebanon. Organically farmed vineyards overlooking the Mediterranean Sea
Planting Year: Early 1990s
Altitude: Approximately 400 metres
Harvest: Hand-harvested into 20 kg crates, with careful grape selection
Soil: Clay and limestone

The vineyard benefits from a Mediterranean climate shaped by both altitude and proximity to the sea. Long, dry summers are moderated by maritime influence, while mild winters support healthy vine development.

Situated at approximately 400 metres above sea level and facing the Mediterranean, the vineyard brings freshness, salinity, and aromatic precision to the wine, helping it retain balance and elegance rather than weight.

Vessel: Stainless-steel tanks
Fermentation: Spontaneous fermentation with indigenous yeasts
Skin Maceration: 25–35 days
Ageing: Aged on the lees
Oak: None
Filtration: Unfiltered
Additives: No additives during fermentation
Sulphur: A small amount added only before bottling

The wine undergoes spontaneous fermentation with indigenous yeasts and is allowed to stabilise naturally before being bottled unfiltered. It is vinified entirely in stainless-steel tanks without the use of oak. Ageing on the lees adds texture and depth to the fruit, while only a small amount of sulphur is added before bottling.
