About the Wine

Lunatique is MAWJ’s ever-evolving white wine cuvée, made from the indigenous Lebanese white grape variety Obeideh. Depending on the vintage, it may be produced as a single-varietal wine or as a blend, revealing a different character each year, much like the phases of the moon and the changing seasons.

Obeideh has long played a role in Lebanon’s winemaking and arak-producing traditions. In recent years, it has also attracted growing attention for its potential to produce distinctive dry white wines. Lunatique captures that potential in the bottle.

About the Vineyard

Location: Lebanon’s Bekaa Valley, where Obeideh is considered native
Altitude: Over 1,000 metres
Harvest: Hand-harvested into 20 kg crates, with careful grape selection
Farming: Cultivated without the use of herbicides or pesticides

Winemaking

Vessel: Stainless-steel tanks
Fermentation: Spontaneous fermentation with indigenous yeasts
Skin Maceration: Approximately one week
Ageing: Aged on the lees
Oak: None
Filtration: Unfiltered
Additives: No additives during fermentation
Sulphur: A small amount added only before bottling

The wine undergoes spontaneous fermentation with indigenous yeasts and is allowed to stabilise naturally before being bottled unfiltered. It is vinified entirely in stainless-steel tanks without the use of oak. Ageing on the lees adds texture and depth to the fruit, while only a small amount of sulphur is added before bottling.

Recommended Pairings

Serve lightly chilled rather than overly cold. It can be enjoyed as an aperitif and pairs well with Lebanese mezze, grilled fish and shellfish, seafood, goat’s cheese, white meats, chicken, and simple Mediterranean dishes.
