José Piteira
José Piteira learned the Alentejo’s 2,000-year-old talha tradition at twelve, helping his godfather at the winery in Amareleja. By the 1970s the method was close to disappearing; he went the other way, and for thirty years his winery has made nothing else. His talhas are simpler and more classical than most — closer to the original form — a purity recognised at Grandes Escolhas in 2021.
