Markovitis
Markovitis is a reference point for Xinomavro in Naoussa, where the family has made wine at Polla Nera since 1972. Formerly Château Pegasus, the estate began organic cultivation in 1988 and in 1992 became Greece’s first certified-organic vineyard and wine producer. Today it is run by Markos Markovitis, the founder’s grandson, who studied viticulture and oenology at Weinsberg in Germany; the vineyard at the foot of Mount Vermio is given entirely to Xinomavro, as a long-lived red and a structured, highly gastronomic rosé.
